Looking for the Remnant Church

Out of the Protestant reformation many different denominations were born, and today there are thousands of denominations around the world. This can make looking for God's true church a little bit difficult. Why are there so many? Which one is the right one? Is there even such a thing as the TRUE CHURCH? These questions can only be answered by searching the Word of God and comparing the truths of God's Word with what the different denominations teach. Many people would be surprised to learn that the Bible contains a prophecy about God's end time remnant church. But first, let us confirm from scripture that there would be a "remnant" church in the end times.

Revelation 12:17 ...'And the dragon was wroth with the woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.'

Revelation 14:12 ...'Here is the patience of the saints, here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.'

The woman in Revelation 12 is the church. And did you notice that it didn't say ALL of her seed. It said the "remnant" of her seed. Which means God would have a remnant church, a small amount of people who truly followed His true Word in the Bible. And not only that, they are the one's keeping the ten commandments of God and have the faith and testimony of Jesus. And Revelation 19:10 confirms that the testimony of Jesus is the "spirit of prophecy". So this end time remnant church would have a special prophetic gift.

2300 day prophecyIn Daniel 8 we find a time prophecy of 2300 days which points us to the beginning of God's end time church. Now this time prophecy isn't a literal 2300 days, because in Bible prophecy a day is equal to a literal YEAR. So this time prophecy spans a literal 2300 years. In this vision that Daniel has in chapter 8, he sees the little horn kingdom magnifying itself upon the earth and casting the truth to the ground and trampling upon it. This little horn is the Papal Church of Rome, and the latter part of this 2300 year prophecy includes the reign of the Papacy in the dark ages between 538AD and 1798AD, when it literally cast the truth to the ground and trampled upon it by teaching false doctrines and stopped people from reading the Bible to find out the truth.

But when did this 2300 day prophecy start? There is no other starting date for this prophecy other than what we find in Daniel 9:24-27 concerning the 70 weeks prophecy. Here it says that the starting point would be the "command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem." Which was the year 457BC. Now if we go 2300 years from 457BC, we come to the year 1844. So something important was to happen in 1844. What was it?

As we know, because of the great apostasy of the Roman Catholic Church and it's goal to suppress the Word of God during the dark ages. God raised up people who would start the great Protestant reformation. The Roman Church cast down the truth about Christ being our High Priest in the heavenly sanctuary (Hebrews 8 and 9) and that we could go straight to Him for forgiveness of sins. The Roman Church cast down the truth about salvation through faith. The Roman Church cast down the truth about God's commandments and the seventh day sabbath. The Papal Church was guilty of casting down the great plan of salvation which is found in the sanctuary message.

So God inspired the Protestant reformation to restore these lost truths. Protestant ReformersAnd all throughout the reformation God revealed to certain men specific truths that needed to be restored. Through John Wycliffe, God restored the truth about studying the scriptures for yourself. Through Martin Luther, God restored the truth about salvation through faith. Through John Calvin God restored the truth about the power of DIRECT prayer through Christ Jesus for forgiveness of sins. Through John Smith, God restored the truth about baptism by full emersion. Through John Wesley, God restored the truth about evangelism and being a light to the world. Now these men were not SOLELY responsible for restoring these truths, but God did use these men in a particularly powerful way in bringing reformation to these lost truths.

But there was a problem with the reformation. Each time God revealed a truth through these great men, a new denomination would form. And rather than the Lutherans embracing the new truth about prayer and the Presbyterians embracing the new truth about baptism and the Baptists embracing the new truth about evangelism. They all split up into their own denominations. But God knew this would happen, which is why He gave a prophecy in Daniel saying that something special would happen in 1844.

God's End Time Church

A man named William Miller, an American Baptist preacher, after studying the 2300 day William Millerprophecy of Daniel 8, came to the conclusion that Christ Jesus was going to return in 1844. Why did He believe this? Because Daniel 8 says that at the end of the 2300 days (years), the "sanctuary would be cleansed". Now the worldwide belief at that time was that the sanctuary in Daniel 8 represented the earth. So naturally, if it says that the sanctuary would be cleansed, and knowing that this earth will only be cleansed after Christ Jesus returns, it made sense (at that time) that 1844 pointed to the second coming of Jesus.

Willaim Miller came to this conclusion in 1818, but continued to study the Bible and this prophecy for many years to make sure his calculations were right before submitting his views on this. Finally in 1831, after many years of study and having a solid conviction that the 2300 day prophecy pointed to 1844, William Miller started preaching this message, that Jesus Christ was to return in 1844.

From 1840 onwards, the Millerite movement became a national campaign with people from many different denominations joining the movement in hope that they would see their Lord and Saviour very soon. But as we know, 1844 passed without Christ returning. This is known as the "great disappointment" which was porphesied to happen in Revelation chapter 10. There we find an angel (messenger) with a little book open in his hand. Now the only little book that has been closed is this very prophecy of Daniel, which Daniel 12:9 confirms.

Daniel 12:9 ...'And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.'

John is told In Revelation 10 to take this little book and eat it. A symbol of studying the prophecy which is what William Miller did for many years. Then it would be sweet in his mouth, symbolizing the belief that Christ would return in 1844. But would be bitter in his belly, symbolizing the great disappointment of Christ not returning.

Now although many people fell away from the Millerite movement, some stayed together and went back to the scriptures to find out where they went wrong. In doing so, they discovered that the "sanctuary" that was to be cleansed was not the earth, but the literal sanctuary in heaven where Christ Jesus is the High Priest (Hebrews 8 and 9). They confirmed that the date of 1844 was correct, but they now saw that they got the event wrong. And in doing so, they came to the knowledge that Jesus had moved to the most holy place in the heavenly sanctuary to begin judgment. And what resides in the most holy place of God's sanctuary? The ark of the covenant with THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. God had now revealed to these people the importance of His holy law, INCLUDING THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH COMMANDMENT.

Now remember, this Millerite movement contained people from all the different denominations. So all these different truths revealed and restored during the great Protestant reformation were now combined into one movement. With the ADDED revealed truth of the importance of God's ten commandments and the seventh day sabbath.

Ellen WhiteA woman named Ellen White was also part of this Millerite movement. And God used Ellen White in a special way, to be a messenger for the last days and help prepare God's people for the second coming of Christ Jesus. Out of this movement was born the Seventh Day Adventist Church. And now God had a church with all the major truths restored. A church that could take the "everlasting gospel" and the last warning message contained within the three angels message to the world and warn the world that judgment time had begun and that Jesus was soon to return.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church is a prophetic church. A church that keeps the commandments of God and the has the testimony of Jesus Christ (Revelation 12:17). And Revelation 19:10 confirms that the testimony of Jesus is the "SPIRIT OF PROPHECY". Are you looking for God's church? Then take a look at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
